The complete and exhaustive feature list
This is a full list of new features, great and small, which have been added as part of the new version of OpenX. For a summary of the big changes see the beta testing homepage.
OpenX API
The OpenX API allows developers to write programs which talk to an OpenX ad server via a web service. Find out more about the OpenX API on the developer zone.
Single page call
If you serve more than one ad per webpage you should try our new ad tag. The "single page call" ad tag only makes one request to the ad server for each webpage, even when there is more than one ad to display. The result is faster, more efficient ad serving and more delivered inventory.
Variable targeting
Using variable targeting you can deliver an ad based on the HTTP request properties of the ad request including GET, POST and COOKIE values.
Targeting by numeric comparison
Numeric comparison allows targeting rules based on the value of a numeric variable. For instance, if you have a customer database which includes their age you could use numeric comparison to only show an ad to users older than 30.
New dashboard
When you now log into OpenX you will see things have changed. We have introduced widgets! These little panels contain instant information on the latest news from OpenX, the latest forum posts, statistical and campaign overviews. You can move them about, and remove them into the widget bar.
Sophisticated user permissions system
The new user management system provides much better control for user permissions. Now individual users have accounts and can be assigned different levels of access over specific agencies, advertisers and websites.
User audit trail
The audit trail allows administrators to monitor user activity on the system. All events are logged, including user activities and system activities.
PostgreSQL support
This new version of OpenX now reintroduces PostgreSQL support. We've tested OpenX on three of the latest versions of PostgreSQL (we recommend PostgreSQL v8.3). Existing phpPgAds users will be able to upgrade to this beta release.
Full UTF-8 support
OpenX now stores all data in UTF-8 format to better support different character encodings.
You'll see the the option to create a single page call tag under websites > ad tags.
For example, you could set up a targeting rule which tests a 'gender' variable and then pass in gender by requesting the ad using the URL http://ads.mysite.com/?gender=male
You'll see a new targeting rule in the deliver limitations called 'Site > variable'.
You'll see a new options for site variable targeting which includes 'greater than', 'less than' and equal to'.
The dashboard has been designed in a way that will support more widgets to be added.
