Frequently Asked Questions - OpenX module for Drupal

Questions

Answers

Where can I download the OpenX CMS integration plugins? Top

You can download the latest versions on the OpenX CMS integration homepage.

How is the OpenX module for Drupal different from the existing module? Top

We have updated the existing plugin (by Jeff Warrington (jaydub)) to use the new single page call ad tag, and to simplify the configuration required in your Drupal control panel.

History
This plugin was originally funded by a member of the OpenX community in Germany, Ambiweb GmbH, the work undertaken Gerd Riesselmann.

Is the OpenX module for Drupal better than manually creating a block for each ad tag? Top

At the moment these two methods are principally the same but there are two specific benefits. Firstly, it easier for a new publisher to load tags into the system, and secondly this module uses the single page call ad tag which delivers ads faster and more efficiently.

We expect that as this module is developed further it will offer more integration features.

How can I find my OpenX delivery URL? Top

I'm using one of the OpenX CMS integration plugins, or I am using the OpenX Video Ads plugin. What delivery URL should I use?

If you are running OpenX 2.8: login, switch to Administrator and look in: Configuration -> Global Settings -> Banner Delivery Settings -> Delivery Engine URL.

If you are running OpenX 2.6: login, switch to Administrator and look in: My Account -> Global Settings -> Banner Delivery Settings -> Delivery Engine URL.

If you are running OpenX 2.4: login as admin and check in: Settings -> Main Settings -> Delivery Settings -> Delivery Engine URL.

If you are using the hosted version of OpenX, use "d1.openx.org".

How do I install the OpenX module for Drupal on my site? Top

Note: You will first need to install OpenX before you can take advantage of this module.

To install and configure the module

  1. Unzip the relevant Zip file (according to which version of drupal you are using) into your Drupal/modules folder.
  2. Login to your drupal admin console and go to Home > Administer > Site building
  3. You should now see the OpenX module listed. Enable it
  4. You need to setup your zones in Home > Administer > Site configuration > OpenX AdServing
  5. If you have an account on the hosted version of OpenX, you only need to put the zone ID's into the table. (You can also give the zones meaningful names here.)
  6. If you want to serve ads from your existing OpenX installation, expand the "Don't have a hosted account?" section and enter the delivery URL to your OpenX installation
  7. You can then add the blocks to your layout in Home > Administer > Site building > Blocks

How can I test that I've installed the CMS plugin correctly? Top

You can check your plugin is working correctly by serving ads some test ads from our server. Set the delivery URL to "ads.openx.org/delivery" and zone ID 9 for testing.

Note: Use ads.openx.org for testing only. You will not be able to control (or be paid for!) these ads.
