Frequently Asked Questions - OpenX Hosted
Questions
Answers
How long must I wait before inventory changes appear live? What is the cache time on OpenX Hosted? Top
OpenX Hosted has a cache time of 5 minutes.
This means that any changes you make to inventory within an already live zone might not be viewable for up to 5 minutes.
This includes editing linked banners/campaigns, editing delivery limitations, editing campaign settings and editing capping, among other basic inventory changes.
Do I have to use OpenX Market when using OpenX Hosted? Top
No, with OpenX Hosted you have as much control over your inventory as when you use the downloadable version of OpenX. That is to say, you have total control.
You can decide on a per-campaign basis whether to use the Market or not. You can also decide on a per-zone basis which types of banner categories should or should not be used if the zone is being made available to the Market.
For more information on this please see the Market FAQ list.
Why do the stats from OpenX Hosted not match the statistics I'm seeing elsewhere? Top
There are many reasons why the statistics of a banner or campaign might not match the statistics from a 3rd party. We have tried to cover the majority of them here:
http://www.openx.org/en/faq/technical/why-does-openxs-stats-not-match-st...
If the issue is only clicks and not impressions, it could be due to OpenX and the other party having different rules for counting certain clicks.
OpenX has the following features which are related to click tracking:
- There is a 30 second "click block" window. This prevents the registration of duplicate clicks from a single agent within this time (where the clicking agent supports cookies)
- Any clients with User Agent strings that contain "slurp", "googlebot", and/or "msnbot" are excluded.
Of course, click tracking of 3rd-party HTML banners can have varied results, depending on the 3rd party and their support of click tracking, as well as if you have set up the click tracking properly within OpenX. A guide on how to do this is available here:
http://www.openx.org/docs/2.4/whitepapers/3rd-party-click-tracking
Can I sign up for multiple OpenX Hosted accounts? Top
Each OpenX Hosted account should be used for one website, or one network of websites.
You are welcome to register more than one account if you have several independent website networks. To do this, choose a unique company name and company-based email address for each account.
Note: please do not set up multiple accounts in order to avoid reaching the 100 million impression threshold.
Why has my OpenX Hosted application been rejected? Top
We want to include as many publishers on OpenX Hosted as possible but there are various reasons why your application may be rejected.
To ensure your application is accepted make sure you:
- only apply once for an OpenX Hosted account
- complete all fields as accurately as possible
- review the OpenX Hosted terms and conditions
What is the login URL for OpenX Hosted? Top
You can access OpenX Hosted at: http://adserver.openx.org
What is the max file size for banners when using OpenX Hosted? Top
OpenX Hosted allows for banner sizes up to 2 MB. If you attempt to upload a larger banner, you will receive a message like the following:
"An error occurred dealing with the file upload: file size exceeds PHP max allowed size"
What is the difference between the hosted and downloaded ad server? Top
The hosted ad server uses the same open source ad serving software we make available to our downloaded users. But instead of you running the software on your own web server, we run it on ours: saving you the hassle.
There are a couple of minor differences, however:
• Plug-ins and the OpenX API are not currently available for hosted users, unless they purchase the Enterprise Hosted package
• While both the hosted and downloaded ad server are offered for free, hosted users serving more than 100M impressions per month will need to purchase the Enterprise Hosted package, for a fee.
Will you continue to develop and support the open source, downloaded version of OpenX? Top
Yes. We are fully committed to developing the downloaded version of our ad server as well as OpenX Hosted.
What hosted packages do you have available? Top
We are committed to offering OpenX Hosted for free to publishers serving less than 100M impressions per month.
For publishers looking for service, or additional volume, we are offering a tiered service as follows:
| Standard | Enterprise | |
|---|---|---|
| Infrastructure | Shared cluster | Dedicated cluster |
| Monthly fee | None | $1,800 |
| Ad impressions included | 100M | 250M |
| Price per additional 1M impressions | Not available | $17.50 |
| Ongoing service and support | Forum-based | Email support with 8 hour turnaround |
| Optional additional support | Email support for $199/month | 24/7 tech support and hourly support available |
We'd love to hear what you think of the charging scheme. Please let us know at hosted-support@openx.org
I already use OpenX. Can I upload my existing data into my new hosted account? Top
Currently there is not an automated way to manage the migration of data from your downloaded version of OpenX to the new hosted ad server. This is something we are working on.
If you want our professional services team to provide assistance, please complete the contact form at www.openx.org/support/professional-services/contact.
Do you offer a service level agreement (SLA)? Top
We offer no SLA for standard accounts. However, we do offer premium Hosted packages with SLAs. Please contact us at hosted-support@openx.org for more information.
