OpenX 2.6 facilitates the quick and easy delivery of advertising onto your website. Before beginning our in-depth guide to all of OpenX’s functions, and to get you started as rapidly as possible, we would like to introduce you to the product’s key concepts.
N.B. If you are using an earlier release of OpenX, please use the documentation at http://www.openx.org/support/documentation.
The key concepts
- Advertiser: the person or company whose advertisements you will be displaying on your website.
- Campaign: this term is used to denote a specific set of banner ads, their start and end dates, and the frequency with which they are displayed.
- Banner: a banner is any creative content displayed on your website as an ad.
- Publisher: this term refers to the website or websites you will be displaying ads on.
- Zone: a zone is the specific area of the website where an ad will be displayed.
How it works
Use the OpenX interface to:
- begin the process by creating a website
- decide which sizes of ads you wish to display, and create the relevant zones
- copy and paste the relevant zone tags into the source code or template of your website
- create an advertiser
- add the advertiser’s specific campaign
- control which of your websites this campaign’s banners appear on by creating a publisher
- lastly, decide where individual ads appear by linking the campaign’s banners to specific zones
So, those are the basics. Now we’ll begin the detailed guide to how you can get the most out of OpenX…
